The Vaccines - English Graffiti ALBUM REVIEW

On their newly enlightened, Young started praising the adventurousness of hip-hop and pop, and bravely opted out of valuable patronage after decrying the Who’s forthcoming Glastonbury headline slot as "a safe booking." They sought out Dave Fridmann along with former Haunted Graffiti member and Julia Holter collaborator Cole M. Greif-Neill to work on their third album, on which they attempted to "steer clear of a lot of the self-imposed rules that indie music implies," Icelandic bassist Árni Árnason said recently. Some of their fans were hesitant about the more tender, melancholy direction signalled on 2014’s stopgap Melody Calling EP, but to their credit, the Vaccines persevered with it (though they ditched an apparently wilder version that would have been "commercial suicide" ). The result is their best record yet. Part of its success is due to the fact that the Vaccines sound borderline-unrecognizable here, which is probably curmudgeonly

El Primer Concierto

Mi primer concierto? Cuál fué? Aquí les va, sin vaselina: Air Supply en el teatro Centro Cívico de GYE. Capaz se pregunten cómo fui a parar a un concierto de soft ¨extremely cheesy¨ rock. Pues la historia es que pasó aprox en el año 1990-91 cuando la banda estuvo en Guayaquil. Mis padres iban a ir juntos al concierto pero mi hermano mayor le dió algún virus de esos estomacales y mi mamá se quedó a cuidarlo. Ella no quería que se desperdicien los tickets así que me preguntaron si quería ir y eso hice; fuí con mi papá y sus amigos. Yo ni sabía qué iba a ver y escuchar pero me emocionaba el simple hecho de ir a un concierto. Fué una experiencia totalmente nueva, bacansísima y lo disfruté demasiado. Recuerdo mi cara de gil cuando veía al guitarrista bajandose del escenario tocando inalámbricamente... era como descubrir el fuego o el agua tibia. Bueno, esa fué mi historia, pero todos tenemos una; espero compartan sus experiencias aquí en los comments. Estoy seguro serán increíbles.

Pics from photographer Kirk Weddle's long day with the band in 1991 The 1991 day photographer Kirk Weddle shot Nirvana's Nevermind album cover was not necessarily a pleasant one. "Bad weather, bad swimming pool, cloudy water," Weddle recalled in 2011 . "Kurt was a couple hours late and then went right to sleep at the side of the pool, and nobody wanted to wake him up." Perhaps it wasn't the greatest plan to photograph a touring rock band early in the morning – but you can't argue with the results. Weddle's shot of baby Spencer Elden grasping for the all-mighty dollar underwater is one of the most iconic images in rock history, and the ensuing session he did with the members of the band is remarkable, too.
